SPRINGFIELD - Mary Ann Kern, 88, of Springfield died at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Heritage Manor.

She was born on January 29, 1922, in Atlanta, Ga., to Emmett E. and Wilhelmina Seitz Church. She married John Joseph Kern on August 20, 1942; he preceded her in death in 1994.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marian McCurley.

Mary Ann is survived by one brother, Raymond, of Seattle, Wash.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was a member of St. Aloysius Church and was an avid gardener and dog lover. For many years, she was active with the Anchor Boat Club Ladies Auxiliary and served as the Sunshine Lady. She graduated from Sacred Heart Grade School and Feitshans High School. Mary Ann was a homemaker and had previously worked at Victors Adding Machine Company in Chicago and Baker's Manufacturing in Springfield.

Visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. with Reverend Tom Donovan officiating. Interment rites will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Aloysius Church or VNA Hospice Care of Illinois.
