James was born in Galesburg, IL. He graduated from Galesburg High School and Carl Sandburg Community College in Galesburg and is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church as well.

Other memberships include Sigma Phi Sigma Fraternity.

James joined the Staab Family team in 2006.
